One Twitter controversy for college Republicans at the University of Texas apparently wasn’t enough, so their new president gave them another one.
Cassandra Wright, who replaced Lauren Pierce (@laurenepierce) after she joked about assassinating President Obama, posted a tweet that critics called racist. The text of the tweet: “My president’s black, he snorts a lot of crack. Holla. #2012 #Obama.” Wright also sparked outrage for an earlier, racially tinged Facebook post.
Dean of Students Soncia Reagins-Lilly said the “embarrassing and offensive” tweet violates the student honor code. Wright responded to the story by tweeting a drug-related quote from Obama’s autobiography and retweeting vulgar and threatening tweets about her that people have written in response to the controversy.
