Gay rights activist Zoe Strauss tarnished her cause at the first White House reception for gay pride when she posed in front of a portrait of former President Ronald Reagan with both of her middle fingers raised. She posted the photo to her Twitter account along with the tagline “F*** YOU, REAGAN!”

Strauss later removed the photo from both Twitter and her Facebook. She also made her Twitter account private and deactivated her blog, where she had posted another photo from the White House event. Fellow Philadelphia-based gay activist Matty Hart posed in a similar photo but remained defiant about his behavior as images spread online.

A White House spokeswoman condemned the behavior: “While the White House does not control the conduct of guests at receptions, we certainly expect that all attendees conduct themselves in a respectful manner. … Behavior like this doesn’t belong anywhere, least of all in the White House.”
